Abel Project Leadership

Mikel Flanders, Founder and President

Leaders don’t break overnight. They drift. Eventually, the drift catches up.

It did for me.

After nearly 30 years in ministry and executive leadership, I found myself leading growing environments while quietly running on empty. From the outside, things looked strong. On the inside, something was off. I didn’t have language for it, and I couldn’t tell anyone.

The moment everything changed was when I broke.

As Desmond Tutu said, “There comes a point where we need to stop pulling people out of the river and go upstream to understand why they’re falling in.”

That idea reshaped how I think about leadership.

Over three decades, I’ve led in church roles across multiple states and spent seven years as a Fellowship of Christian Athletes Director in Central Missouri. My leadership was recognized nationally as a finalist for Youth Pastor of the Year, and I helped grow a student ministry by nearly 250 percent.

I’ve raised over $1 million in ministry, including a $150,000 commitment that expanded regional impact and staffing, and generated $1.8 million in high-ticket coaching revenue working directly with leaders and executives.

As a speaker, trainer, and coach, I’ve spoken to more than 500,000 people and worked with organizations such as The Boeing Company, Energizer, Enterprise Rent-A-Car, and Union Pacific Railroad. I’m also a certified speaker, trainer, and coach with Maxwell Leadership.

Today, I work with pastors and Kingdom leaders who feel stuck, discouraged, or off, often before they can fully explain why. My focus is simple, help them recognize drift early, realign what matters most, and lead with clarity, resilience, and integrity before it costs them.

I’m a father, which keeps my work grounded in what matters most.
